MAPUSA: Taxi operators from Calangute constituency on Thursday said that Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho is misinformed about the issue of fitment of digital meters for taxis.
Addressing a press conference at Calangute, taxi operators said that the transport minister is misinformed and is trying to mix and make a combo of digital meter, a printer, GPS and panic button.
They stated that though printer and fare meter was as per the directives of the High Court of Bombay at Goa, the other two were asked by the Government of India. The transport minister is trying to combine both.
Taxi operator Rohan Kandolkar claimed that taxis have already been fitted with digital meters while, the government is asking them to pay Rs 11,500 for the digital meters and other accessories when digital meters were available for Rs 4000 in the open market.
Taxi owners have also requested Chief Minster Dr Pramod Sawant to keep on hold the termination of nearly 3000 taxi permits for non-complying with the directives of the court to fit meters for vehicles.
