PANJIM: Bailancho Saad, at its Friday meeting, severely criticized the state government and held it solely responsible for the law and order situation that spilled onto the National Highway at Porvorim, which they said affected the security of citizens more so that of women.
“Bailancho Saad has been consistently protesting government policies of promoting vices to promote tourism, which has resulted in drastic consequences on the populace. While drugs are illegal, drug parties and related activities are allowed,” Dr Sabina Martins of Bailancho Saad said.
The Chief Minister stated that the Nigerians were “drunk and high and were at the bar whole morning” and the ‘police were afraid to deal with the burly bodied men.”
“We state the fallout of alcohol promotion for tourism are showing and now acknowledged by the CM. However, government continues to violate the spirit of the law by selling alcohol on government premises which is against the Directive Principles of the Constitution.
Bailancho Saad demands that the government stop selling alcohol for IFFI on government premises for its own sake, if not for the people as they would now be at the receiving end from drunks,” she said.
The Bailancho Saad also reiterates its demand to close all casinos in the state “which are dens for drug peddling and conversion of illegal money, prostitution and trafficking.”
“Casinos also employ burly bodied men as bouncers who are used to intimidate people to protect their illegal activities. The stoning of the Panjim police station was fallout of a brawl in the casino which spilled onto the streets. The law enforcement machinery was at the receiving end,” she said.
“That some of the police are hand in glove with criminals is no secret, resulting in no action against their crimes. The CM himself has stated that the police force is compromised. It is evident that the murder of a foreign national was a result of the drug war. Drug peddling and drug addiction among locals is no benefit from tourism. In fact the cost to the local community far outweighs the zero benefit,” she said.
Bailancho Saad said they condemn the use of derogatory language to offend communities. The issues confronting Goa are very serious and therefore called upon all politicians to rise above politicking to correct faulty policies and enforce the rule of law.
