DIVAR: Divar villagers met on Opinion Poll day and decided to ensure that the younger generation is educated on the importance of the poll and the date. The meet, felt the need of the Opinion Poll being included in school history books.
Tiatrist Anthony Gonsalves, who has made efforts to promote Konkani overseas, postponed his travel dates to ensure he was present at the celebration.
Most of those who met were in their 60s and over and recollected the Opinion Poll campaign, poll and also counting.
“We were children at that time, but remember our elders participating in the poll,” said Tomas Rodrigues. There was also a suggestion to install a statue of Jack de Sequeira on the island.
The meeting also felt the need of making a documentary film on the Opinion Poll, while people still remember it.
