Six top teams from across India, ONGC Dehradun, BPCL Kerala, HSIDC Haryana, KSEB Kerala, LIC India Mumbai and hosts Cuncolim Union Goa will clash for the top honours.
The volleyball loving people in Goa will be treated to top notch volleyball action from international players like Tom Joseph, Jerome Vinith, Ranjit Singh, Subbarao, Vinit Kumar, Sarang Lal, A. Karthik, Marshall Thomas and many more.
The winners will take home cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 along with trophy while runners-up Rs 75,000 along with trophy and third place Rs 40,000.
Elvis Gomes, organising chairman informed, “Cuncolim Union is set to organise the extremely popular tournament once again and that Goa should get ready to once again witness “The Fiery Air Affair”. All the top teams as mentioned above are confirmed and the volleyball loving public in Goa will be treated to top notch volleyball action from international players like Tom Joseph, Jerome Vinith, Ranjit Singh, Subbarao, Vinit Kumar, Sarang Lal, A Karthik, Marshall Thomas and many more. This year, we will be seeing players who have represented the India Team in the Asian Championships and in the SAF Games, recently as this year.”
Prakash Desai, president of Cuncolim Union said that the club has been actively involved in football but for the last three years, the organisation of the volleyball tournament has seen a huge spurt in attendance from the locals.
“The tournament has received recognition from the Volleyball Federation of India, and the organisers have even applied to host the Federation Cup, which is a calendar event in the national volleyball calendar. As the host team, Cuncolim Union will be fielding a team which will have a mix of top Goan and Indian players. Goan players like Aaron Pereira, Rama Pappu Dhawaskar will play along with some internationals like A. Karthik and Cuncolim Union is going to give a tough fight to the more established teams, he added”
The six teams will be divided into two groups of three each. In Group A: ONGC Dehradun, Kerala State Electricity Board and Cuncolim will play each other to qualify for the semi-finals. Group B: BPCL Kerala, HSIDC Haryana and LIC Delhi will vying for the title. The final will be played on April 23.
