PONDA: Though water at the Opa water treatment plant, which draws water from Dudhsagar ( Mhadei) river, reduces in summer officials at the water treatment plant say there is no need to worry due to the recent pre-monsoon showers, as well raw water pumped from mining pits into Opa river. This has increased the water level at Opa water works, officials said.
They further elaborated that in April, the water level at Opa water works was measured at 3 meters during this summer. For smooth pumping at least 3. 5 metres water is required. However, continuous pumping of raw water from mining pits for two months besides recent pre-monsoon showers helped to increase the water level measured which is now measured at 4.25 metres. Opa storage capacity is at five meters and expected to get full in the rainy season. Besides this Opa bhandara gets water pumped from Usgao bandhara and also from Selaulim dam for treatment. Water is also stored some bandharas on Dudhsagar river.

It may be recalled that the Opa waterworks facility has five water treatment plants that collectively treat water and supply about 152 to170 MLD of potable water daily to five constituencies in Tiswadi and four constituencies in Ponda.
While 40 MLD and 27 MLD plants cater to the potable water needs of Tiswadi taluka, water from the remaining plants is supplied to both Ponda and Tiswadi talukas and parts of Valpoi and Dharbandora.
