PANJIM: Following pressure from taxi owners, the State government has further extended the date for fixing fare meters and global positioning system (GPS) tracking devices in cabs to August 1.
This is the second extension granted to taxi owners within six months from the date of notifying the Goa Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2015 on December 4, 2015. The immediate enforcement was postponed to April 1, this year.
While Transport director Sunil Masurkar remained unavailable for the comments, a senior official confirmed the development. “This will be the last extension given to taxi operators, who will have to implement the system from August 1,” the official said.
The decision was taken following a meeting between Transport Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar and North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association.
