Vasco: The Coast Guard rescued 14 fishermen from a flooded boat off Goa’s coast on Saturday evening.
According to Coast Guard Goa (CGG) PRO Akshay Jain, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Committee (MRCC) received a distress call from fishing boat ‘Nixymol’, which was carrying out fishing activities 80 kms to the north of Goa.
“The fishing boat had developed a crack in the hull, due to which sea water started flooding inside. The MRCC alerted the CGG headquarters, and ICGS C410 was promptly dispatched from Goa for rescue operations. In the meantime, communication with the fishing boat was maintained to provide support. The fishing boat was directed to bail out water regularly to avoid water entering the engine and to keep propulsion. The CGG ship reached the distressed boat and 11 fishermen were brought onboard the CGG ship. The fishing boat, with three fishermen onboard for support, was towed away,” said Jain.
