MARGAO: The Mhadei Bachao Andolan (MBA) protests were held at Margao opposite the comunidade building.
Subhash Velingkar, N Shivdas, Shamala Kamat, Elvis Gomes, Siddharth Karapurkar and several others were present for the protest. The protesters walked around the municipal garden with banners and placards highlighting the Mhadei issue.
Addressing the protesters, Subhash Velingkar said, “If someone tries to sabotage our efforts to save Mhadei, we will beat them on the road. Government will have to pay all the sins they committed by selling off our River Mhadei.”
He also said that already Maharashtra has diverted water into Virdi and now the remaining will be taken away by Karnataka. “I am sure all South Goa people ignoring caste, creed and religion will assemble and protest against the apathy of the Government of Goa,” he said.
Writer N Shivdas said, “This work was expected to be done by Government for the protection of our river. People representatives were expected to do all this but they are with their hands folded. The chief minister doesn’t have guts; they are trying to save his chair; they have no interest in Goa.”
“Comunidades don’t come often; but they have volunteered and now only the ones with true Goan interest and the ones who do not get sold should be elected,” N Shivdas added.
