GPCC rules out sacking Mauvin, Madkaikar

PANJIM: As the Congress MLAs Mauvin Godinho and Pandurang Madkaikar are all set to join the ruling BJP,

the block committees of the Assembly constituencies – Dabolim and Cumbarjua, represented by both these legislators, have demanded party ticket to new faces for the upcoming 2017 state elections.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro said that the newly constituted block committees have resolved and recommended to PCC that new faces be introduced during the coming elections. “The block committees are confident that the new faces will get maximum support in those two constituencies,” he said in the presence of Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane.
Faleiro however, ruled out sacking both the MLAs, who have repeatedly cast aspersions on the Congress state leadership. Godinho and Madkaikar have announced to contest on BJP ticket in the upcoming elections.
While Dabolim MLA is slated to join the party on December 16. The Cumbarjua legislator is probably waiting for the Election Code of Conduct to come into force.
Reacting to the rebel MLAs outburst against the party leadership, Rane hit out saying, “Congress party is not of an individual or two-men show…there has to be collective efforts from all sides….one individual cannot run the party”.
The Leader of Opposition also alleged that fearing action from the government against them (for illegalities they have done), both the MLAs are switching sides like “jumping rats”.
“They believe that our party is sinking and hence want to switch over. I want to ask them one question…what have they both done for the party?” Rane questioned.
Rane was referring to vigilance inquiry initiated against Madkaikar for purchase of about 9,000 sq mts of land at Old Goa. While a power scam case is pending against Godinho.
