CANACONA: Two more fires to cashew plantations were reported on Friday.
Sources at fire and emergencies office at Canacona said that they received two fire calls one in the morning and the other in the evening of Friday. Cashew plantations were destroyed in both the cases.
As the cashew harvesting season is fast approaching the Canacona Fire and Emergencies office is flooded with fire calls mostly to cashew plantations with locals suspecting mischievous being played.
With today’s fire incidents the fire and emergencies staff had to attend a total of ten fire calls mostly to the cashew plantations in the taluka. “With manifold increase in fires in the cashew plantations local rivalries can’t be ruled out,” say plantation owners on condition of anonymity.
Fire and emergencies office has put up the loss in the two separate incidents of Friday at over Rs 50,000 and they said timely intervention saved a property of over Rs one lakh from getting gutted in the fire.
The fire fighting team was lead by leading fire fighter Tulshidas Desai and assisted by fire fighters Paresh Bhagat, Ganesh Naik, Vivekanand Naik, Anil Talpankar and driver operator Sandesh Gaonkar.
