It doesn’t matter whether the ruling party or the government is either backing or distancing itself from divisive comments. Divisive comments create unease and discomfort in our society which was not there earlier.
Comments which cause any kind of unrest and have the potential to create discord within communities are like a leak in a piping system. However good the piping and the quality of the pipelines are when there is leakage you can’t solve the issue by putting a bucket under the leak and mopping the floor.
Some of the comments have been made by people holding the highest positions in the land and we must ask whether they were needed at this stage and if they benefit Goans.
At the same time does the Chief Minister, as propounded, wants to take Goa on the path of economic and social development, improving the ease of doing business and creating opportunities for growth and development for all? If he does, then can comments either made by responsible party functionaries or “currently irrelevant” people (as per the BJP’s spokesperson’s description of the RSS prant founder) sit side by side with the development and growth agenda?
