Are all the polling stations in South Goa connected with the ramp facility. Or, do the polling stations have the water facility?
PWD engineers will fan out to nook and corner of the South Goa Parliamentary constituency to ascertain whether the ramps are in place or left damaged by the intervening monsoons and wear and tear.
The ramp facility is made mandatory as per the Supreme Court directives for the benefit of the handicapped. The ramps were first set up in the 2007 Assembly polls across the state in polling station, which were not handicap friendly.
However, temporary wooden ramps erected at some of the booths were left damaged after the 2007 Assembly polls when the PWD failed to remove and store them in a safe godown, prompting the election officials to erect new ramps in the by-polls for the South Goa Lok Sabha polls.
Election officials said that District Magistrate and Returning Officer for the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency, Mihir Vardhan has issued directions to the PWD engineers to visit the polling stations and ascertain the status of the ramps as well as the water supply facility.
