Govt must keep Goans updated on COVID facts, figures: Oppn

PANJIM: Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat on Wednesday said the government must keep the people of Goa updated on actual and realistic facts and figures regarding the handling and management of COVID-19 in the State.

He said the government must release daily reports on availability of COVID hospital beds, ventilators, medical oxygen cylinders, COVID medicines such as Remdesivir, Covishield vaccines, etc.

The government must take all the elected representatives into confidence with regards to COVID vaccination camps, Kamat said during the virtual meeting convened by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, to discuss on COVID situation in Goa. 

The government must also come out with an effective action plan to control spread of the virus, he said. 

The government must work out a plan on conducting examination in online mode which will help in controlling spread of virus among the students. The government needs to find alternate plan of conducting examination in the event the COVID situation remains same for longer period, he said.

Expressing his concern that the government did not work out any action plan on academics, Kamat said time and again he had urged the government to effectively commission the Intranet Optic Fiber Cable Network connectivity, which has reached every village panchayat in Goa for online/distance education. 

There needs to be control on influx of people in Goa and the government needs to make compulsory COVID negative certificates for people entering Goa, he said.

Kamat also pointed out that unclaimed bodies need to be cremated in a time-bound manner to reduce pressure on mortuaries. The government must make arrangements to supply wood to crematoriums on priority basis, he said.
