PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah challenged the Congress to point out to even one scam of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government during the past year.
“I challenge the Congress party to levy at least one corruption allegation against our government in the last year. Congress will not find a single case of corruption in the BJP-led government at the Centre,” Shah said in his address at the meeting in Panjim, on Thursday.
Shah, in Goa on the completion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s first anniversary at the Centre, addressed a meeting attended by more than 8,000 people from across Goa. Almost all BJP ministers and MLAs along with party leaders were present for the meeting. Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza who is out of the country, and all three MGP legislators, two of whom are ministers, were not present for the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said that during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government there was a scam being unearthed every month. “During the decade-long continuous government of the Congress there were corruption cases emerging regularly. Now the situation in the country has changed. We are giving a visible government to the country,” Shah said.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has seen poverty and he can understand the difficulties and problems of the poor people in the country. Our prime minister rose to this position from being a mere ‘chay wala’ (tea seller),” Shah said, questioning whether any common party worker of the Congress can become prime minister or party president.
“In Congress you have to take birth in the Gandhi family to become a party leader or prime minister but BJP has given a platform to all party workers to become leaders through their hard work,” Shah said.
Shah said that BJP has given a government that works for the people. “BJP government has gone to the rescue when a Christian priest was arrested in Afghanistan as a terrorist. It is our 1prime Minister Narendra Modi who intervened and got him back safely to India,” Shah said.
Earlier, Shah was accorded a warm welcome by BJP workers on his arrival at Dabolim Airport. Over 100 party workers were present. Power Minister Milind Naik was the first to reach the airport to check the arrangements. He was joined by state BJP president Vinay Tendulkar and later Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Union Minister Shripad Naik and other ministers and MLAs and party workers including women arrived at the airport.
