Margao civic meet to decide on statutory panels

Three days after taking over the reigns of office, Margao Municipal Council (MMC)?Chairperson Sushila Naik has convened an urgent meeting of the Council on Monday to decided on the constitution of the statutory committees, including the much-sought after market committee.
While the Civic Chairperson is the ex-officio Chairman of the Standing Committee, it remains to be seen whether Vice-Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello would head the market committee or the post is filled up via election.
During the tenure of Chairperson Savio Coutinho, the Council had settled to fill up the post of market committee Chairman through election.
Whether the same approach would be adopted by the new body headed by Sushila Naik remains to be seen as it helps to accommodate a Councilor on an important position.
Sources in the know said that one-two councilors may be interested to head the Market committee, but the exact picture would emerge only after the meeting of the Margao Municipal Council scheduled on Monday.
