Sanguem: Akin to the problems faced by the Selaulim Evacuees at Wadem Colony No. 1, the residents of Wadem Colony No. 2 are also facing acute drinking water supply problems for a couple of days. Though monsoon showers have already lashed Goa and water can be seen everywhere, the residents of Wadem Colony No. 2 have to patiently wait for the tanker to arrive to access drinking water. Incidentally the residents of Wadem Colony No. 2 are the rehabilitated villagers from Curdi village who paved way for the construction of the Selaulim Dam.
Though the govermnment at the time of their displacement had assured fulfillment of all their demands including regular drinking water supply, the government is yet to make provision for it.
Presently, the bore well from where drinking water is supplied to the residents of Wadem is almost dried up, claim the villagers. Water from the bore well can be drawn up for a maximum of two hours in a day after which the bore well dries up, complained the villagers.
The villagers are presently provided with drinking water through a tanker.
Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar speaking on the issue of scarcity of drinking water at Wadem, said the water woes of the Selaulom evacuees will be solved permanently within a period of one year. Gaonkar said he would put up a proposal for one MLD drinking water supply project in the village which Gaonkar claimed will help in solving the problems faced by the villagers.
Incidentally the ex-MLA Subhash Phaldessai had footed a proposal for 5MLD drinking water project in the village and the same was reported to be in the pipeline. Gaonkar however claims the 5MLD project to be non-viable given the huge cost involved in the project.
“Instead I will initiate one MLD water project in the village which could be easily done by the State Government” said Gaonkar.
