PONDA: For a second time in as many weeks, the students of Farmagudi ITI (Industrial Training Institute) resorted to protest for their demands.
A week ago, over a hundred students of the electrician trade protested demanding suspension of an instructor for alleged harassment and extortion.
However, this time, the students in five different trades boycotted their classes to protest the sudden transfer of 11 instructors. The students have demanded that all the 11 transferred instructors be brought back.
When pointed out that the instructors are government servants and the government has every right to transfer them as a matter of routine, the students in one voice said that they were not against transfers, but it was not right to transfer them in middle of an academic year. “The syllabus is yet to be completed and the first semester exams are scheduled in January next year. Transferring the instructors at this point would affect our academic progress,” they said.
“After transferring 11 instructors, the government provided only two in their place. This will affect our learning as the new instructors will not be able to complete the syllabus,” the students said.
The protesting students were of the opinion that the government should have transfered trade instructors at the end of academic year after completion of both semesters.
