PONDA: Ponda locals on Friday requested the State government to allow the hardware shops selling the requirements needed for pre-monsoon works to remain open.
With the Chief Minister announcing a State curfew from May 9 to 23, the people are worried about the on-going house repairs which have been pending due to the voluntary five-day lockdown which was imposed by the Ponda Municipal Council and panchayats in the taluka.

They have requested the government to keep the hardware shops selling plastics, roof sheets, tarpaulin, channels, steel etc required for monsoon preparation to be kept open during the curfew period.
The locals also fear that many workers have left the State due to the fear of lockdown as result there could be a shortage of labourers.
As per the Indian Metrological Department (IMC), the monsoons are expected to reach Goa during the first week of June.
