MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has expressed serious disappointment at the failure of Fomento Green in taking responsibility to segregate of waste at dump at Sonsodo plant.
Conveying his disappointment explicitly, Reginaldo said, “Fomento Green is not doing its assigned job.”
Reginaldo told the reporters: “I am not happy with the job the Fomento Green is doing at the plant at Sonsodo and have raised the issue at the High Power Sub Committee Meeting held earlier.”
“I have raised concerns of the functioning of the plant and non-clearing of the dump and I will keep raising them at all the meetings,” Reginaldo said adding, “I will be there with the team if they are putting an honest effort to solve the dump issue, but not be party to sabotage by any person.”
Reginaldo said that there was an existing tender with the concessionor (Fomento Green) and it has to take responsibility of doing the job at Sonsodo. “The existing plant was for mixed solid waste and not for segregated waste,” said Reginaldo. “It is their responsibility and they have to shoulder it,” he added.
Reginaldo has also raised concerns and has requested to be assured regarding the new contract for bio-remediation of the dump at Sonsodo and not to hurry into the procedure.
He also raised fears over the cost of the entire remediation process at the Sonsodo dump; but he claimed that the GSIDC is well equipped to do the same job at much lower cost.
Taking a dig at the ‘Citizens for Sonsodo’, Reginaldo said, “Unnecessary issue has been made by CFS. After having taken a decision by taking people into confidence, we have made a decision to go ahead with bio-remediation and I advice the CFS not to mix issue of dump and garbage.”
“The plant is functioning properly and anyone is welcome to visit the plant and check the operations. I have no issue with that,” said Fomento Green CEO Shridhar Kamat while refuting allegations made by Curtorim MLA
“As far as the existing dump is concerned, that is not under our purview but the municipality’s and the government and so I cannot respond on that, Kamat added.
“The then committee had decided to cap the dump and at this meeting, as far as I know, there was no decision on capping of the dump. CFS has joined politics and they are now politicians. But don’t politicise the issue as you’re all AAP people,” Reginaldo. said. “I want the issue solved as my people are being troubled by smell and also by the ground water contamination” reassured Reginaldo.
