PANJIM: A day after the NDA-backed Bihar Assembly unanimously passed a resolution stating that there is no need for National Register of Citizen (NRC) in the State; the Congress has urged State BJP government to call for a special Assembly session to reject NRC and the National Population Register (NPR).

The Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar, though extended its support to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), has said that there is no need for NRC in Bihar and updating of NPR should be done according to the 2010 format.
Addressing media persons, Congress spokesman Trajano D’Mello said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should take some advice from Nitish Kumar and respect the sentiments of the people. “We demand that the Goa government immediately calls for a special one-day session of the State Legislative Assembly and reject NRC and NPR,” he said.
“Or else, they should publicly condemn Nitish Kumar’s government’s decision. The Chief Minister and BJP should call upon Home Minister Amit Shah and demand that Nitish Kumar be sacked and sent to Pakistan for his anti-NRC and NPR stand,” he demanded.
Stating that India is getting divided over the issue of citizenship, D’Mello urged government not to allow disharmony to enter Goa.
