RAIA: Cuncolim Union SC defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 6-5 via tie breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 45th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament at Raia panchayat ground, on Saturday.
The match began with a positive note with both teams trying the equal chances at the goal area. Cuncolim Union came close to scoring in the 10th minute of play when Krishna Shirodkar
connected to Orland Colaco who was lurking inside the box of Don Bosco but the shot went over the bar.
Thereafter, Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda proceeded with a beautiful move right in the 15th minute of play when Cliff Barretto pulled a trigger shot which hit the outside net of Cuncolim Union and went wide.
The first half remained goalless. Don Bosco through Francis Andrade supplied the ball to Joel Camara, but Krishna Shirodkar cleared the ball to safety for Cuncolim SC in the 46th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Cuncolim Union netted through Jerico Dias, Tadlon Gome, Dinesh Naik, Leander D’Cunha, Beston Colaco and Krishna Shirodkar While Don Bosco Oratory scored through Niclau Borges, Roque Borges, Cliff Barretto, Jaison Pinto and Karsten Araujo. Cuncolim Union SC will meet Navelim SC on July 16 in the quarter-final.
