Matemoll Boys defeated Mixed Friends 1-0 to advance into the second round of Carmo memorial inter-ward football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club, at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, on Tuesday.
There was no score at half time.
Matemoll dominated the entire proceedings but inept shooting by the forwards prevented them from surging ahead in the opening session.
Matemoll put up a better display in the second session with the forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put pressure on the rival citadel. Matemoll’s constant attack fetched them dividends when Franky Fernandes bulged the net from close range in the 58th minute.
At the other end, Mixed Friends struggled and seldom troubled the rival defence with any worthy moves.
