Expressing shock over the vandalism in Chandor, local MLA and Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao said the incident is a clear attempt to divide Hindus and Christians in the State and vowed that the law enforcing agencies would nab the culprits to book.
Alemao along with Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco visited the sites vandalised by the unknown miscreants and later had discussions with the South Goa Superintendent of Police, Allan de Sa.
“They want to divide the people on religious lines. Earlier, they had targeted the Temples, not the Churches and Crosses. The government is committed to bring the culprits to book”, he asserted.
Alemao expressed his surprise that the incident has taken place at the time when the Goa Legislative Assembly is in Session and said it is the handiwork of the very same people trying to foment communal divide in the State.
Saying that the police would take all necessary action in the matter, Alemao said he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister as well as the Home Minister to bring the culprits to book.
SP, South Allan De said the police will not link the incident to the Temples desecration case unless it is investigated in detail. When asked that the police had failed to carry out patrolling around the place of religious worship, SP De Sa said he had alerted the police stations in the district around three days ago after a minor incident at Sanguem. “We were alert. During nights, patrolling is being carried out by an office of the rank of DySP”, he added.
