PANJIM: The State government has notified pattern of assistance of non-salary grants/maintenance grants to be sanctioned to all recognised non-government aided primary schools, which had switched over to the regional language or mother tongue — Konkani or Marathi as the Medium of Instruction (MoI).
Non-salary grants will be 10 per cent of salary as reflected in Receipt and Payment Account or actual expenditure incurred on admissible items, whichever is less. The grants are to be paid in two installments subject to availability of funds with the Directorate of Education and are to be reimbursed on the basis of expenditure incurred for rent, furniture, books, equipment, office contingence etc during previous year as reflected in the Audited Statement of Accounts.

Besides encouraging non-government aided primary schools to impart primary education in the mother tongue, the pattern of assistance will also provide an opportunity to management of primary schools in Konkani and Marathi to develop and improve the requisite infrastructure and build up resources in schools.
The grants are to be used to develop or improve the requisite infrastructure as well as a build-up resource in the school. Earlier, in 2016, the government had notified a scheme to pay special grant of Rs 400 per student per month as assistance to aided primary schools teaching in Konkani and Marathi.
