PANJIM: Notwithstanding to the Opposition’s objection, State government has decided to invite global tender to auction 24 lakh sqmtrs of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) land, to repay the loan amount of over Rs 200 crore paid to the promoters to unlock the land.
Addressing media persons on Friday, Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane said that in order to have complete transparency in the auctioning process, e-tenders would be floated.
“We will invite global-tender for SEZ land auction to see that we get maximum value for the land,” Rane said.
Minister said that the global-tender would also help us in getting maximum bidders from across world.
Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has already taken back around 24 lakh sqmts of land from Inox Mercantile Company, Peninsula Pharma Research Centre, Planetview Mercantile Company, K Raheja and Corporation and Paradigm Logistics and Distribution.
The government is in talks with two SEZ promoters — Maxgrow Finlease and Meditab Specialties to unlock the balance around 14 lakh sqmts.
Government intends to auction the land latest by April 30, 2020.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has raised objection to government plan to auction the land.
Kamat had said SEZs were scrapped upholding the sentiments of Goans by his government way back in 2008. He said the Bombay High Court at Goa had even vindicated their government’s stand terming the allotment to SEZ promoters as illegal.
Further, the minister informed that government is in process of forming a task force to draft a new investment policy for the State.
Rane said that it is important to have common industrial policy which encompasses both, industrial policy and investment promotion policy to take industrial sector ahead in the State.
Rane said that the task force will also deal with to identify the issues related to industrial sector.
