CALATA: Navelim Villagers Union blanked Mormugao United 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 29th St Rock Super Soccer football tournament in memory of Angelo D’Costa organised by St.Rock YC, Calata and played, at Majorda ground, on Friday.
Both teams started the match on the forefront as Navelim defender Covan Lawrence after taking ontrol of the ball from Ratesh Nagesh as he dribbled past Sameen Borkar and Seby Fernandes from the defence line of Mormugao and was about to pull the trigger but Mormugao’s Suresh Lamani made a timely tackle in the 4th minute.
In the tenth minute Covan Lawrence should have found the ball at the back of Mormugao net but the latter’s long range shot hit the side netting.
Minutes later, Navelim’s Danstan Fernandes shot the ball wide. Navelim’s Rowan Pereira netted the first goal of the match with a snap shot in the 20th minute.
In the second half Navelim substitute Dalwin Costa made it 2-0 for Navelim in the 58th minute.
Navelim Villagers Union will now meet the winners of SC Davorlim and Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa in the quarter-finals on April 19.
