Goa to get FIFA U-17 games

PANJIM: FIFA has decided to allot U-17 World Cup 2017 to India and Goa would be one of the probable venues out of the four to five states shortlisted for the event by All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Accordingly the State cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to grant exemption from entertainment and ticket tax for the forthcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted in Goa in 2017.
The proposal guarantying security for the event was also passed in the cabinet.
The proposal moved before the cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar mentions that Union cabinet has approved the hosting of FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 in India and Central government is in the process of issuing required guarantees to FIFA regarding India’s bid for the event.
The AIFF has already submitted the bid document to FIFA and has written a letter to Goa Football Association (GFA) on July 16 this year, informing them about various agreements to be signed on behalf of the state.
The host city agreement on behalf of Goa has been signed with FIFA by Principal Secretary (Urban Development) and Stadium Agreement is signed by Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).
The training site agreements have also been signed over the locations like Cuncolim, Assolna, Cansaulim, Raia and Chowgule College, where there are grounds.
Total 24 teams participate in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, held every two years. Mexico won the championship in 2011.
