MARGAO: Union of Chinchinim Villagers registered a thumping 8-1 win over Uguem’s Rising Club to enter the quarter-final of Salcete Zone GFA’s Third Division league at SAG Ground, Assolna on Monday. Chinchinim led 3-0 at the breather.
Chinchinim made a flying start and caught the rival defence off guard. Chinchinim opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when striker Vicky Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot. Spurred by the early success, Chinchinim kept their opponents on the back foot in both the sessions. Cletus Pereira doubled the lead in the 30th minute when he received the through pass from Velroy Dias. Three minutes later, Sidroy Coutinho inflated the tally when he beat the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
Uguem’s were expected to come back strongly in the remaining period of the game but Chinchinim defence was vigilant enough to deny any passage to the rival attackers.
Post resumption did not bring any relief to the Uguem’s as their opponents attacked from both the flanks. Velroy Dias inflated the tally in the 61st when he executed free kick which eluded both the goalkeeper and human wall. Three minutes later Cletus Pereira completed his brace when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Uguem’s however managed to pull one back through Milagres Gomes in the 65th minute.
The Sanguem side were pushed to back foot again and in the 75th minute Adriano Fernandes bulge the net. Venson Fernandes made it 7-1 in favour of Chinchinim in the 82nd minute. Adriano Fernandes drove the last nail into rival coffin at the stroke of lemon break.
Mandopa down Davorlim
At DYSA ground, Curtorim, Mandopa Sporting Club drubbed Sporting Club of Davorlim 3-1. Mandopa led 2-1 at lemon break.
Avelon Gomes drew the first blood in the 9th minute. However their joy was short lived when Bruno Costa beat the rival goalkeeper with neat finish.
Stunned by the equalizer, Mandopa went into attacking mode and made it 2-1 in the 24th minute when Merwyn Gomes beat the rival goalkeeper with deft placement.
Clyde Miranda drove the last nail into rival coffin late in the second half.
