PANJIM: The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has urged the State government to remain firm on its stand on the issue of tourist taxis while extending support to App-based GoaMiles cab service.
“The law of the land is supreme and the government irrespective of its political compulsions must implement the orders of the Hon’ble Courts. The TTAG appeals to the government to remain firm on their stand and assures its unequivocal support to the government’s decision to promote GoaMiles and the implementation of taxi meters in all tourist taxis across the State. We also urge the government to deal with the unruly taxi operators with an iron hand and not allow them to disrupt the peace and harmony in the State of Goa,” TTAG President Nilesh Shah said in a press statement issued on Saturday.

The TTAG has requested the taxi owners lobby to embrace technology and move ahead with times.
“They are more than welcome to start an App of their own and we assure our full support to that too. In the coming years, the tourism industry will see a huge spike and there will be lots of business for everyone. But the most important thing is transparency, which the taxi unions have to adhere to,” Shah said.
The TTAG has appreciated the State government’s strong stand against the unjust demands of the taxi union.
“TTAG has always stood firmly behind the government’s decision to introduce GoaMiles as we believe that App-based aggregators are the way forward for a tourism State like Goa. In fact, we would go a step ahead and say that other App-based aggregators like Ola and Uber should also be invited to set shop in Goa as that would only increase healthy competition amongst the operators and give the tourists and locals a better alternative,” the TTAG added.
