Navelim farmers object to acquisition of their fields

Margao: A day after the Goa State Urban Development Authority (GSUDA) attempted of mark the land in Aquem Baixo, Navelim; the farmers of these fields protested against this decision and raised objections to the acquisition of the land.

Farmers who held placards that had messages about saving their fields said that they need the land for their survival.

Local farmer Augustina Colaco, said they have been cultivating the fields for generations. “They have erected poles to mark the boundary and will close entry to the land,” she added. 

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) assisted the farmers in their protests. 

Protestors reminded the government of the promises made by former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar of not taking over lands which are being cultivated.
