The South Goa Progressive Truck Owners Association has declared its support to the indefinite bandh called by All Goa Truck Owners Association from December 27.
Speaking to media, Association President Prakash Raut Dessai stated that Director of Transport Arun Dessai had assured the truck owners that the rate of ore transport will be increased, if only 10 tonnes of ore was transported per trip.
“As per the High Court order, we transport only 10 tonnes per trip, but the rate is not yet increased. After three and half months struggle, only one company has increased the rates, but other companies have not yet increased the rates,” he said.
All Goa Truck Owners Association Treasurer Bhiku Prabhu Dessai alleged that the transport contractors want to earn Rs 1,000 per trip at the cost of the truck owners.
He appealed the truck owners not to yield to the pressures, tactics or false assurances given by the mining companies or contractors and firmly stand by the Bandh for the welfare of all the truck owners.
It was also informed that a meeting has been fixed with the Director of Transport on December 28 to find a solution to the problem.
Association Vice President Raghunath Naik and other office bearers were also present on the occasion.
