VASCO: The increasing number of street beggars in Vasco has turned to be pain for the locals as they have occupied the footpaths and making them filthy spitting and urinating.
Few days ago some councillors along with the KTC staff, social worker shifted these beggars from outside the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) building to a shelter home but they have returned to the place where they were once begging. Sources revealed that there are beggars who do open defecation, urination, and dump garbage, food residuals, which emits foul smell and it prevails around the municipal building.
There are apparently over hundreds of beggars—men, women and children—spotted begging in Vasco municipal area in various spots.
When contacted, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Damodar Kaskar said that in this regards he will write a letter to the local police and will look into the matter.
Another councillor Prajay Mayekar also said that he has also observed that there are beggars who sit outside the municipality and makes the place dirty therefore he himself got this stretch cleaned. Mayekar further said that instructions to the municipality workers have been shoo the beggars, if they are found occupying the space outside the municipality.
