MARGAO: Savio Dias, the petitioner in the Gonzaco Rebello illegal construction case has responded to the allegations of the Margao Municipal Council chairperson by terming his remarks and allegations on NGOs, his activists colleague and his brother as defamatory and baseless.
Dias says the time of making the allegations speaks volumes of his illicit activities and says that Gonzaco now wants to target NGOs, activists and his family members before leaving the chairperson’s post.
Dias has challenged Gonzaco Rebello to come out with concrete proof of the allegations levied against him as he has concrete proof that the two structures of Gonzaco – one in front and the other at the back of the shops are illegal, and the same has been confirmed by the South Goa Planning and Development Authority and Margao Municipal Council. Dias has also alleged that Gonzaco who owns a bungalow in Mungul is paying only Rs 100 as house tax to MMC and an inquiry on the same is pending.
Gonzaco has been misguiding other colleague councillors and having realised it the councillors will soon remove him from the post of chairperson, Dias said. He has also claimed that Gonzaco fears that he may contest against him at the ensuing municipal elections and to malign his clean image has attempted to make baseless allegations.
Gonzaco is also afraid that I may pursue the disqualification petition against him for his recent misconduct as a councillor and construction of two illegal structures and so by false allegations and propaganda he wants to threaten me.
“All allegations made by Gonzaco are the fall out of my firm campaign to expose his illegalities despite severe threats and pressure,’
Dias concluded.
