MARGAO: After a meeting with the Navelim MLA and Aquem sarpanch on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza assured to look into regularizing illegal houses in Fulsabhat, Aquem as per government policy. Residents of the illegal houses, which were under scrutiny following complaints from NGOs, recently sought the intervention of Navelim MLA Avertano
Furtado.
After the meeting, Furtado expressed his gratitude and satisfaction with the outcome. He said the residents were from the ST community, and thus, he had sought D’Souza’s intervention on their behalf. He also pointed out that the Fulsabhat residents were being harassed by someone.
Furtado and Aquem Sarpanch Sharon Quadros updated D’Souza on the latest developments and explained that the Town and Country Planning department had rejected their applications for regularization twice.
D’Souza said the government wouldn’t change its stand on encroachments on government land, but the Fulsabhat houses could be saved based on the government’s policy to regularize all illegal structures on private land.
