“We want that tourists go back with good memories of Goa being a scenic destination and the place where drugs are not available. We need to change the image of Goa on the globe as the place where drugs are freely available,” Chief Minister said.
Parsekar was speaking as the chief guest at the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking function organized by Goa Police.
He also said some locals were attempting to get into the drugs business, banking on the number of tourists arriving.
“Though drugs are not manufactured in Goa, there are some tourists who come here to try drugs as innovation,” Parsekar said.
“We have no objection to anyone having a business in Goa but it should not be of drugs,” he added.
The chief minister appealed to children to be informants of the State police in curbing anti-social activities.
DGP Muktesh Chander urged students not to indulge in using drugs as they ruin lives.
“Government makes efforts to arrest malpractices of drug trafficking and to maintain a drug-free atmosphere in society,” Chander said.
