MARGAO: Residents of Navelim finally heave a sigh of relief as some relief as The Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa (SIDCGL) has initiated the process of connecting households and colonies to the sewage network- a project that had been pending for several years.
Authorities and citizens alike are confident that the issue of discharging sewage into storm water drains, nullahs and open fields will be resolved once the connections to the sewage pipeline are established.

It is pertinent to note that for nearly nine years, the sewage network project in the Navelim constituency has been ongoing. Residents have expressed frustration over the delay in connecting their households, which has caused significant problems in the area.
Former PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral assured that all work related to the sewage pipeline in Navelim would be completed by April 2023, with household connections starting from May 2023.
Cabral had also committed that the project, including the laying of sewage pipelines, construction of manholes, and pumping stations, would be finished by April 2023.
Villagers had alleged that the department struggled to complete the micro-tunnel at Nagmoddem and the construction of manholes for several years; however, these tasks have now been completed.
Recently, at the request of residents, Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira summoned the officials of SIDCGL and directed them to begin the process of providing connections.
Speaking to O Heraldo, N P Parsekar, managing director from SIDCGL reported that testing of the sewage network is currently underway and that household and apartment connections will be established very soon.
“The testing of a 1.5-kilometre sewage network line at Nagmoddem-Navelim is in progress and once the testing is successful, approximately 150 connections can be established,” Parsekar said.
It is expected that the 1.5-kilometre stretch will provide sewage connections to households and apartments from Dongri to Sequietim, including those within and around the Navelim panchayat area.
“Nearly four pumping stations along the stretch starting from Rawanfond are almost ready,” Parsekar informed. ‘We can start using this sewage line once we complete the remaining minor work.
