MAPUSA: With the rise in coronavirus cases, it appears that non-COVID medical emergencies have taken a back seat thereby putting the lives of patients at risk.

In this particular case, a couple from Pernem, who had approached the North District Hospital for treatment, got discharged without proper treatment.
The wife of a patient suffering from paralysis attack claimed that she took her husband to North District Hospital for treating a boil on his leg.
She complained that instead of treating her husband, both had to undergo a COVID test which later came positive.
Both claimed that they were later shifted to COVID Care Centre and after completing the quarantine period they once again approached the North District Hospital for treatment as after consuming the tablets at the COVID Centre, the patient’s leg got infected.
The woman alleged that when she and her husband approached the North District Hospital, he was admitted for two days and during this period; none of the doctors checked his infected leg.
The woman further claimed that the hospital doctors had mentioned that her husband has to undergo a surgery. However, instead of performing the surgery, her husband was discharged.
“It is mentioned in the report that surgery of the leg has to be performed, however after admission, the staff nurse and the other staff only checked the blood pressure and not the leg. And now my husband has been discharged without any treatment and surgery. What are we supposed to do,” she asked.
