MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) continued its anti-encroachment drive across the commercial city and its team led by market inspector Santo Fernandes cleared out illegal vegetable and fish vendors on Friday.
“We seized fish from the Old Pickup stand in Margao and also near the SGDPA wholesale fish market in Fatorda,” said Fernandes.

While the fish that were found to be rotten were disposed of at the Sonsoddo garbage dump, fish that was fresh was donated to the Lar de Santa Terezinha orphanage in Pajifond, Margao.
Fernandes added that they also targeted illegal vegetable vendors. “We seized the banana handcart near the old Hari Mandir in Malbhat, Margao. We seized fruits that were being sold near Big G Mall in Pajifond and also seized vegetables that were being sold on the station road,” said Fernandes.
While the handcart was kept in the municipal garden and some vegetables were kept at the municipal office, the remaining vegetables were donated to the Matruchhaya Balika Kalyan Ashram, Sonsoddo, and Valentina’s Little Heaven Orphanage in Colva.
