MMC ex-councillor Fondekar no more

MARGAO: Former vice-chairman and ex-councillor of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Narayan Damodar Pai Fondekar passed away in Belgaum due to cardiac arrest, on Sunday. He was 71. 

The last rites were performed at Mathgramastha Hindu Sabha, here, on Monday evening.

Narayan is survived by his brothers — Ramesh, Avinash and Kamu and sisters — Kalyan Sridhar Karmali and Pratibha Ramprasad Lad. 

He was the general secretary of Mathgramastha Hindu Sabha, committee member of Shree Kamaxi Saunsthan, Shiroda; president of Solid Party Trust, Margao and active member of Zambaulim Shigmo celebrations.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said, “I am deeply pained on sudden passing away of my friend Narayan Pai Fondekar, ex-vice-chairman of Margao Municipal Council. Margao has lost a selfless social worker. Popularly known as Nana, he was near and dear to all and was a helping hand to all those in need.”

“A photographer by profession, he was also a good stage artiste and had even acted in TV serial produced by Goa Doordarshan,” Kamat added.
