PONDA: A high-level meetings of all concerned with issues of Ponda, including various government departments, NGO and locals, took up the issue cattle menace in the region.
The meeting, held at Ponda Deputy Collector’s office, was attended by deputy Collector Navnath Naik, BDO, PWD, transport and animal husbandry officials, PMC staff and Goa Can convenor Roland Martins, its members and locals.
The meeting discussed threadbare, the burgeoning menace of stray cattle, including measures to be adopted to bring the issue under control.
Members also brought to the notice of the authority that despite PMC collecting food and garbage waste on day-to-day basis, they often throw food waste in the open and in front of their road.
They pointed out that such negligence attracted stray cattle, which also become the cause of vehicular accidents.
It was also brought to the notice by members that these cattle had no owners and insisted that the animals must be moved to a proper shed.
The deputy Collector said there is a need for cattle shed and said he would initiate the construction through PMC soon. He appealed to the panchayat bodies to bring all stray cattle under one roof and help reduce the menace.
Mohan Umarye of Animal Husbandry said if injured cattle were found, people should contact their department office at Curti and the staff would attend to them.
