Prisoner who escaped from Shimla held in Goa

MAPUSA: Calangute police held an escaped prisoner who was undergoing life sentence in a Shimla jail. Calangute police held Darshan Kumar (46) who had escaped from the Central Jail of Kanda-Shimla, Himachal Pradesh on November 12.
According to sources Kumar was undergoing a life sentence and was lodged in Kanda Jail since 2012 on murder and robbery charges. On November 12 he managed to escape from the legal custody of the jail authorities. Subsequently an offence was lodged in Shimla Sadar police station under section 223 and 224 IPC and the search operation was on.
On November 18, PI Jivba Dlavi received information from sources that Kumar was moving in Calangute. Accordingly a team was formed and search operation conducted to trace him.
Kumar was held near Calangute fish market as he was about to leave Goa. Calangute police have contacted the Shimla Sadar police station to take Kumar’s custody.
The police team was headed by PI Jivba Dalvi and had PSI Vidyesh Pilgaonkar, PSI Sitaram Malik and PC Vidyanand Amonkar.
