PANAJI: Goa’s Nupoor Sirsat won the men’s one km race while Joao Carlos Estrocio won the U-18, 250 metres race on the concluding day of the two-day, 7th Speedo Goa Swimathon, held at the Bambolim beach on Sunday.
The event was organised by Enduro Sports Goa.
Teenagers from across India dominated both the one km and 2 km open sea swim races on the concluding day.
While Vikram Gowda of Bengaluru won the men’s 2 km race with a timing of 24 minutes 12 seconds, Shalmali Sutar of Pune won the women’s 2 km race in 28 minutes flat.
Goa’s very own, Nupoor Sirsat won the men’s one km race in 15 minutes 28 seconds, while Keerthana P of Bengaluru won the women’s one km race in 17 minutes 22 seconds.
Another Goan, Joao Carlos Estrocio won the 250 metres sprint in the U-18 category with a time of 3 minutes, 37 seconds, while Punit of Hyderabad came first in the open category of the 250 metres sprint in 4 minutes 32 seconds.
On Saturday, Sagar Badve, a hearing impaired swimmer from Aurangabad won the gruelling 10 km race and Mayank Chapekar of Thane triumphed in the 5 km race, while Bengaluru women, Nikitha SV and Vani Embar won the women’s 5 km and 10 km race respectively.
The two-day event saw a record participation of over 250 athletes from across India and overseas. This year’s event was in aid of Coastal Impact, a NGO dedicated to preserving India’s pristine coastline and was supported by GTDC, The Indian Navy and The Indian Army.
