PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the contractor and the government departments concerned to take adequate safety measures while constructing the six-lane elevated corridor at Porvorim.

A citizen has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition in the High Court highlighting severe dust pollution and danger to life.
According to Advocate General Devidas Pangam, a site inspection was conducted and the contractor has been told to black top the entire diverted road on priority, while the North Goa Collector has been asked to remove the major hurdles caused by illegal construction, to avoid traffic congestion.
The High Court has now directed the contractor and the PWD to comply with the suggestion and directions. The matter has been posted for further hearing in the first week of December.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday said that despite continuous efforts and ongoing discussions with various departments, heavy traffic remains a significant concern.
Highlighting some critical areas, the Minister said the road widening from Chogm Road to Damian
de Goa will be taken on priority with the concerned department to expedite the work.
“Our target is to complete the critical roadwork by December 5,” Khaunte said.
