PANJIM: Rainer Dias was re-elected as the president of Goa Yachting Association in the elections held for the new managing committee recently.
Elections were held for the eight posts with 25 nominations received.
A total of 98 ballots were cast. The results revealed a landslide victory for sitting president, general secretary and treasurer. President Rainer polled 82 votes, his closest contender Lt Col Gautam Dutta polled 12; Secretary Keith D’Souza polled 82 votes, his closest contender Col Milind Prabhu polled 12 votes and Treasurer Dr Astrid Monteiro polled 81 votes, followed by her closest contender Hemant Arondekar 10.
The first Vice-President Divya Sahasrabuddhe won with 80 votes, followed by Donald Coelho 16; second Vice-President Dr Milind Colvalcar won with 79 votes, followed by Ravi Shankar 10; Joint Secretary Rajesh Pai won with 74 votes, followed by Ernesto Alvares 15; Joint Treasurer Bryan Soares won with 82 votes, followed by Francis Coelho 11; Captain of Boats Rohan Thakur won with 77 votes, followed by Francis Coelho (10), stated a press release.
After the victory, President Rainer informed that the main focus of the newly elected committee is procurement of coaches and building of the sport at the grassroots level. The sport has been without a coach since 2015 after the last coach migrated to the United Kingdom.”
“Despite repeated requested to the government the sport is still without a coach. Two coaches were approved at the Sports Authority of Goa Annual General Meeting held on October 12, 2021. However, till date there have been no appointments,” he added.
