A second killing of a kabaddi player in Punjab this week has reignited fears of gang violence in the region after the brutal slaying of Gurwinder (Gurinder) Singh in the Samrala block of Ludhiana district. A social-media post from an account using the name of Anmol Bishnoi — brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi — claimed responsibility and named alleged shooters, while also issuing a fresh threat to the gang’s rivals.
According to local reports, the attack took place on Monday night in Manki village near Samrala, where four masked assailants on two motorcycles opened fire. Gurinder was shot and later succumbed to his injuries; another man who was with him was wounded and is reported to be in stable condition. Police have formed multiple teams to track down the suspects and say several associates have already been detained for questioning.

The post circulating on Facebook and other platforms claimed the killing was carried out by Karan Madpur and Tej Chak, and said responsibility was taken by Hari Boxer and Arzoo Bishnoi. It warned, “Either mend your ways or be ready for the next bullet to pierce your chest,” escalating fears of retaliatory violence. Authorities are investigating the provenance of the online claim and are treating the post as part of the probe.
Police statements about the victim’s background differ across reports. While some outlets and the social-media claim identify Gurinder as a kabaddi player, Ludhiana police briefings cited by local papers described him as a pigeon keeper and warned that posts claiming gang responsibility could be attempts to mislead investigators. Senior officers say they will pursue all leads, including those pointing to organized-crime links, and have warned that misinformation on social media will be acted upon.
The incident comes days after another high-profile shooting in the region that left a kabaddi player dead, prompting heightened public alarm and renewed calls for tougher action against gang networks that have a history of violence across Punjab and neighbouring states. Law enforcement agencies say they are coordinating with specialised task forces to apprehend the shooters and to stem any possible cycle of revenge attacks.
Authorities have also launched legal action against those suspected of using social media to claim credit for the killing or to threaten public peace, as investigators work to establish the exact chain of events and motives behind the attack. Local residents staged protests demanding swift arrests and tighter security after the killing.
