A thick blanket of fog engulfed the national capital on Monday, sharply reducing visibility across several parts of the city and severely disrupting air traffic operations. The poor weather conditions also contributed to Delhi’s air quality slipping back into the “severe” category.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a ‘red’ alert has been issued for dense fog conditions on Tuesday morning, warning commuters and travellers of continued disruptions.

Visibility at both Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and Safdarjung dropped to around 50 metres at 8 a.m., later improving slightly to 100 metres by 9 a.m., the IMD reported.
Flight operations were heavily impacted, with at least 128 flights cancelled, eight diverted, and nearly 200 delayed, as per airport officials and data from flight tracking service Flightradar24.
Authorities have urged passengers to stay updated with airline advisories as dense fog is expected to persist.
