Local Animal Birth Control (ABC) Margao has decided to permit painless euthanasia of critically ill, fatally injured or rabid dogs on a fast-track basis. The procedure will be carried out using Sodium Pentothal and only after approval by a subcommittee. The panel will include two veterinary officers and a representative from a recognised animal welfare organisation. Officials said the decision aims to prevent prolonged suffering while ensuring transparency and accountability in extreme cases. The move comes amid rising concerns over animal health and public safety, particularly in cases involving rabies and severe injuries where recovery is not possible.
