Indian Idol Season 3 winner Prashant Tamang passed away at the age of 43, sending shockwaves through the entertainment world and the Gorkha community. The singer and actor was rushed from his residence to a hospital in Dwarka, New Delhi, where he was declared dead on 11 January 2026.
Condolences flooded social media as fans and public figures struggled to process the sudden loss. Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh Assam State General Secretary Nanda Kirati Dewan called Tamang’s death an “irreparable loss,” noting his role in opening doors for Gorkha artists on national and international platforms.

Born in Darjeeling on 4 January 1983, Prashant Tamang belonged to a Gorkha family and initially served as a constable with the Kolkata Police.
