Sudip Tamankar, general secretary of the All Goa Private Bus Owners’ Association, was allegedly assaulted by a mob of seven to eight unidentified individuals in Mapusa on Saturday. Tamankar sustained injuries to his hands and legs.

The incident occurred as Tamhankar was returning home on his two-wheeler shortly after addressing a press conference.

Speaking to a section of the media, Tamankar stated that the attack occurred after he publicly alleged that buses belonging to a tours and travel company had illegally entered Goa without proper registration.

He claimed the group obstructed his path, causing him to fall, after which they assaulted him and took photographs of his vehicle.

Tamhankar emphasised that such violence discourages individuals from speaking out against violations in the transport sector. He maintained that he was simply addressing the issue of unregistered vehicles operating illegally in Goa.

The police have taken cognisance of the matter and have detained several individuals in connection with the alleged attack. Further investigation is currently underway.
