Swiss national held with satellite phone at Mopa airport

PERNEM: The Mopa Airport Police have registered a case against a Swiss national after a prohibited satellite phone was detected in his baggage at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, on Saturday.


Police said a Garmin InReach Mini 2 satellite phone was found during security screening of Ro-land Eicher (41), who was travelling to Chennai. The use and possession of satellite phones are prohibited in India without prior authorisation.

During the inquiry, the Swiss national failed to produce any licence or per-mission from the compe-tent authority. Subsequent-ly, a case was registered against him under Section 6(1A) of the Indian Wire-less Telegraphy Act, 1933.
